"Of great importance to the public is the preservation of this personal liberty; for if once it were left in the power of any the highest magistrate to imprison arbitrarily whomever he or his officers thought proper ... there would soon be an end of all other rights. "UNLESS the faith of the American in these RELIGIOUS CONVICTIONS is to endure, the principles of OUR DECLARATION WILL PERISH. We cannot continue to enjoy the RESULT if we neglect and abandon the CAUSE."

Some state and local governments in America have, in purported efforts to counter coronavirus, become in significant ways like communist countries suppressing religious activities while promoting certain favored large-scale political demonstrations. New York City has been a prime example of this development with Mayor Bill de Blasio praising select demonstrations in the streets while shutting down religious assemblies.
Thousands of individuals defied the suppression of religious assemblies in New York City on November 8 by attending a wedding. At the wedding held at a synagogue there also appears to have been widespread disregard for government mask wearing and “social distancing” mandates. In a Saturday New York Post article, Susan Edelman tells the fascinating story, reminiscent of brave defiance to government dictates in communist China and the Soviet Union, of how the wedding was arranged and carried out in secret.
The story of the secret wedding is inspiring in its demonstration of people’s commitment to continue to live their lives normally despite government efforts to impose a dystopian “new normal” world. At the same time, the story is depressing in its demonstration of the tyranny that has taken hold in much of America in the name of countering coronavirus that poses little risk of death or serious sickness for most people.
As in communist countries, the disclosure of the forbidden religious assembly has led to condemnation and punishment. New York Post articles detail some of the state and local government actions that have taken place in response to the wedding. On Sunday, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo condemned the wedding as both “disrespectful to the people of New York” and “a blatant disregard of the law.” He also called on New York City to conduct a “robust investigation” of the wedding and for the “full consequences of legal action” to be imposed for law violations. On Monday, de Blasio said a 15,000 dollars fine would be imposed on the synagogue that hosted the wedding and stated “there could be additional consequences quite soon as well.”

Author of the first American dictionary, Noah Webster, says Thanksgiving is “a public celebration of divine goodness; also, a day set apart for religious services, specially to acknowledge the goodness of God, either in any remarkable deliverance from calamities of danger, or in the ordinary dispensation of his bounties.”
The tradition of Thanksgiving as a time to focus on God and His blessings dates back almost four centuries. While such celebrations occurred at Cape Henry, Virginia as early as 1607, it is from the Pilgrims that we derive the current tradition of Thanksgiving. The Pilgrims left England on September 6, 1620, and for two months braved the harsh elements of a storm-tossed sea. After disembarking at Plymouth Rock, they, first and foremost, had a prayer service and began building hasty shelters. However, unprepared for a harsh New England winter, nearly half of the settlers died before spring. Yet, persevering in prayer, and assisted by helpful Indians, they reaped a bountiful harvest the following summer. The grateful Pilgrims then declared a three-day feast in December 1621 to thank God and to celebrate with their Indian friends — America’s first Thanksgiving Festival. This began an annual tradition in the New England Colonies that slowly spread into other Colonies. The first national Thanksgiving occurred in 1789. According to the Congressional Record for September 25 of that year, immediately after approving the Bill of Rights:
Mr. Elias Boudinot said he could not think of letting the congressional session end without offering an opportunity to all the citizens of the United States of joining with one voice in returning to Almighty God their sincere thanks for the many blessings He had poured down upon them. With this view, therefore, he would move the following resolution:
"Resolved, That a joint committee of both Houses be directed to wait upon the President of the United States to request that he would recommend to the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer… Mr. Roger Sherman justified the practice of thanksgiving not only as a praiseworthy one in itself but also as warranted by a number of precedents in Holy Writ…. This example he thought worthy of a Christian imitation on the present occasion."
The resolution was delivered to President George Washington who heartily concurred with the congressional request, declaring: Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor… Now, therefore, I do appoint Thursday, the 26th day of November 1789 . . . that we may all unite to render unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection.
I believe every year is a perfect time to revisit these first principles, and, especially in light of this historical year of events that may challenge our thankfulness, I believe it is even more important to continue to recognize God’s sovereign hand in our affairs.
So, this Thanksgiving, let us give thanks to the God of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for America’s incredible founding and urgently pray that our government would never relinquish its God-given duty to secure our rights despite its own urges to play god and control our lives under the guise of protecting them.

President Trump ordered the GSA to start a “transition” to a Biden Administration after GSA administrator Emily Murphy said she received “threats online, by phone, and by mail directed at my safety, my family, my staff, and even my pets in an effort to coerce me into making this determination prematurely.” So why didn’t Trump order Attorney General Barr or FBI Director Wray to investigate these threats and bring the perpetrators to justice?
Has Trump been president? Or hasn’t he? Isn’t he still in power?
I asked super-lawyer Larry Klayman these questions. He founded Judicial Watch and Freedom Watch and said about Trump: “He’s been taking bad advice for four years. He’s been told that he is the chief executive in one area but not in the other area. Trump is the head of the Justice Department.”
Klayman offered to do the job for Trump. All Trump has to do is appoint Klayman as an interim special counsel (who doesn’t need Senate confirmation) and he can investigate and uncover wrongdoing. He’s probably the most aggressive lawyer ever seen on the conservative side.
“Barr is scared of his own shadow,” Klayman observed, “and Barr has done nothing.” He noted that Barr’s special prosecutor in Obama-gate, John Durham, has produced nothing, except for a guilty plea from a low-level FBI official. “Nobody is going to be held accountable.” All of the big crooks are still free.
Meanwhile, another false friend of Trumps, Fox News, is gloating over Trump’s surrender, reporting Biden as saying that the Trump administration’s outreach on the transition is “sincere.”
“Immediately, we’ve gotten outreach from the national security shop to just across the board,” Biden told Deep State mouthpiece Lester Holt of NBC News. “They're already working out my ability to get presidential daily briefs, we're already working out meeting with the COVID team in the White House and how to not only distribute but get from a vaccine being distributed to a person able to get vaccinated, so I think we're going to not be so far behind the curve as we thought might be in the past,” Biden said. “And I must say the outreach has been sincere -- it has not been begrudging so far and I don't expect it to be.”
Even so, Trump and his sons and other members of the Trump 2020 team are desperately trying to raise money for a legal defense of Trump. But where was the president when his own GSA administrator was being threatened? Where was Barr? Where was Wray? Many Trump supporters are demoralized and think they’re being played for fools.
I wrote the column, “The big steal is underway, but Trump won’t surrender,” and now I’m not so sure.
Trump ally and Bay of Pigs veteran Fran De Varona said, “If the President does not act quickly, Biden will be in the White House in 2021 and our Republic will be destroyed!” That was two weeks ago. All Trump has done is go golfing, pardon a turkey, give a one-minute speech about the stock market, and authorize the transition to Biden.
Now we hear he has pardoned his former national security adviser Michael T. Flynn, whose case was still tied up in the courts. His lawyer is Sidney Powell, the same lawyer helping Trump’s legal team. She’s an expert on Justice Department corruption.
A Flynn pardon may be another sign that Trump realizes he’s on the way out and has to act fast.I hope I’m wrong.
The same forces who targeted Flynn four years ago also targeted Trump, and they are still in charge of the justice system. What a sad state of affairs.
There’s still time, Mr. President. Order Barr and Wray to investigate the threats against your own GSA administrator. Order them to protect Joe Oltmann, the activist who documented a link between Antifa and Dominion Voting Systems. He told me in an interview he had to hire security guards.
Rush Limbaugh says he was disappointed in Sidney Powell’s evidence at the national news conference. Did he not listen to Powell discuss Eric Coomer of Dominion, the guy heard on an Antifa conference call referring to how he rigged the election against Trump? Oltmann revealed all of that. There’s enough evidence here to blow the case wide open.
In the same way the election was stolen in plain sight, the evidence of wrongdoing is out there, in the form of interviews with people like Joe Oltmann. Why do some conservatives persist in saying there’s no evidence of fraud?
Bring Joe Oltmann forward, into the White House if necessary, and let him tell his story. It is harrowing. Let GSA administrator Emily Murphy come forward and tell her story about being threatened. Then let Barr and Wray explain why they are doing nothing.

TO EDITOR
In Response to Summary of the November 12, 2020 Repentance and Prayer Day Request Commentary, Written by Elinor Montgomery – News n Blues Newsletter, Vol. 1557 of November 16, 2020.
Thank you, Elinor, for your commentaries. I too joined in prayer for Canada and America on November 12, 2020.
I love the two nations of America; their original precepts are so honorable. On the whole, the citizens are mostly a progressive liberal type, pretty anti Trump and all pro Trudeau, pro Biden and such, not to mention the Coronavirus. But the Lord is our focus and in Him we trust, thankfully, or else, what would a person do about the madness in the outer world. There is certainly a need for repentance, and each person has to work out his/her own salvation. I think that in every facet of society there would be very few true believers while progressive liberalism is running rampant. If one were to mention that one was pro America, pro Trump, pro traditional Canada, America and pro-life, they would be stunned, speechless, astonished, shocked. These are strange times – they love abortion and the reset.
But praise God who sees us through.
Bless you, and Merry Christmas!
