Our 45th President Lacked the Ability to Discern
By Kelleigh Nelson NewsWithViews.com September 6th, 2022
Discernment is not a matter of simply telling the difference between right and wrong; rather it is telling the difference between right and almost right. —Charles Spurgeon
The supreme end of education is expert discernment in all things-the power to tell the good from the bad, the genuine from the counterfeit, and to prefer the good and the genuine to the bad and the counterfeit. —Samuel Johnson (English writer)
But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. —Hebrews 5:14
The first method for estimating the intelligence of a ruler is to look at the men he has around him. —Niccolò Machiavelli
Being brutally honest is not always comfortable, but it seems a trait that comes naturally and it’s not always welcomed. How many times I’ve had people say to me, “Why don’t you tell us what you really think, Kelleigh!” I write what I believe is the truth as I know and understand it via research, experience and study. You may not agree with me and that’s okay, but speaking the truth even when it hurts is an essential part of me. I don’t mean to offend, only to tell it like I see it. So here goes.
The Campaign
Those who regularly read my articles know that I heartily supported Donald Trump in 2016. Every article I wrote back then was promoting Mr. Trump or exposing those running against him. Like everyone else, I was thrilled that we finally had a candidate who spoke for the heart of America. I worked to help him, and twice wrote articles he used in rallies. One of those articles, Proof: Jeb Bush Under Eminent Domain Took a Disabled Veteran’s Property, exposed Jeb Bush, and Trump used it one Monday in three rallies and even tweeted it. It was written after a debate where Bush accused Trump of taking an elderly woman’s home via eminent domain. She kept her house.
Bush was gone the next week.
The second article was written after Trump asked why the media was allowed to lie about him. The article, Supreme Court Ruled Media Allowed to Lie with Impunity, covered the 1964 Supreme Court decision NYTs vs. Sullivan, and Trump spoke about it when he gave a speech in Alabama where Commissioner Sullivan’s lawsuit against the Times originated.
Left and neo-con right called Trump uncouth, his tweets disgusting, and his manners in poor taste. The more moneyed folks called him crass, but I found him delightfully honest. Truth be told, most Americans loved the way he spoke and tweeted. Why? Because he talked just like we do without the dry polished political hogwash that spews from the mouths of lifelong politicians.
Trump was a breath of fresh air!......

In Canada, Free Speech Is Under Fire. America, Take Heed.
By Douglas Blair / @DouglasKBlair / The Daily Signal September 04, 2022
When Americans consider Canada, they probably think of maple syrup and funny accents. They should start thinking about alarming amounts of authoritarianism.
What has been jokingly referred to as “America’s hat” has been going through a rough patch recently when it comes to protecting its citizens’ fundamental liberties.
And next on the chopping block appears to be free speech.
During a recent trip to Alberta, Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland, who also serves as finance minister, was confronted by an angry man who yelled obscenities at her and called her a traitor. Canadian politicos quickly criticized the incident.
“If you disagree with a politician, by all means exercise your right to protest. But screaming threatening language & physical intimidation cross the line,” tweeted Alberta Premier Jason Kenney.
And on Sunday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said, “Threats, violence, intimidation of any kind are always unacceptable, and this kind of cowardly behavior threatens and undermines our democracy and our values of openness and respect.”
These handwringing comments come on the heels of efforts by the Canadian government to tamp down on free speech rights.
The government, led by Trudeau’s Liberal Party, has promised to institute a so-called online harms bill that would press companies to censor whatever the government defines as “harmful.”
“Now, more than ever, online services must be held responsible for addressing harmful content on their platforms and creating a safe online space that protects all Canadians,” the Canadian government’s website states.
But the Trudeau government’s track record when it comes to determining actual harmful content is egregious.
During the Freedom Convoy protests earlier this year, the government viciously cracked down on Canadians’ rights to peaceably assemble, all while slandering the organizers as being Nazis and racists.
“Freedom of expression, assembly and association are cornerstones of democracy, but Nazi symbolism, racist imagery, and desecration of war memorials are not,” Trudeau said.
After claiming that the protests were not really speech and were just hateful bigots complaining, Trudeau’s government proceeded to invoke the Emergencies Act. The invocation granted the government sweeping powers, which it immediately used to crush the free speech of the truckers.
The incident with Freeland in Alberta isn’t a useful example of how to express one’s feelings, but it’s being used as a justification for the Canadian government’s continued efforts to stymie free speech and free expression unless it’s for the benefit of the Liberal Party.
But Americans shouldn’t look the other way, since Trudeau’s brand of authoritarian speech-policing isn’t isolated to the Great White North.
Here at home, we see so-called hate speech being used against protected groups like Black Lives Matter or transgender people used as an excuse to ban or deplatform those critical of the radical left.
While the American government hasn’t yet been able to destroy that pesky First Amendment and pass laws banning hate speech, social media platforms, most notably Facebook and Twitter, do the job for them and regularly retaliate against their opposition.
And the key word there is opposition, because hateful speech targeting those the powers that be dislike is allowed to flourish or even encouraged.
Since the leaked draft of the Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade in May, angry protesters have marched their way around the justices’ neighborhoods, chanting vile and hateful things. Thus far, authorities have refused to act, even though what the protesters are doing is against the law.
Trudeau’s Canada and Attorney General Merrick Garland’s Justice Department here are dire warning signs of a frightening new breed of authoritarianism. The state will ruthlessly enforce orthodoxy toward leftist positions and accuse peaceful protests against them as hateful.
Canadian and American elites alike are trying to strip us of our free speech rights to insulate themselves from criticism. We can’t let them.
If the left is so afraid of what we have to say, we must keep talking.

It’s Time for Corporate Media to Tell the Truth About America’s Crime Problem
By Simon Hankinson / The Daily Signal September 05, 2022
What’s missing from this report?
The Washington Post tells us that Jorge Orozco-Sandoval, 35, dropped off more than $300,000 to an undercover U.S. agent at a Target parking lot 90 minutes’ drive from the White House. That he was a courier for the Jalisco New Generation Cartel. That he had previously done time in a Maryland prison sentence for possession with intent to distribute. And that he’d been deported to Mexico in 2010.
But missing from the article is any information about Orozco-Sandoval’s immigration status. How did a criminal drug dealer, deported back to Mexico over a decade ago, get back into our country? Under the Immigration and Nationality Act, Orozco-Sandoval was clearly ineligible for a U.S. visa.
Of course, we can guess how this recidivist gangster came back in. Most likely he slipped across an area of the border left unattended by Border Patrol officers who have been reassigned by the administration to process asylum applications rather than enforce our immigration laws.
Thanks to President Joe Biden’s wide-open border policies, millions of illegal immigrants each year and thousands of pounds of illegal drugs every month are pouring into our country.
Meanwhile, America’s big cities are being victimized by repeat offenders on an unimaginable scale. In New York City, leftist bail reform and see-no-evil “progressive” prosecutors have allowed a mere 10 (count ‘em, 10) offenders to commit over 485 crimes since 2020.
Last week, a man was arrested for violently assaulting a New York City transit worker. It was his 41st arrest—the 40th was for sucker punching a woman on the street. Even New York Mayor Eric Adams says that releasing offenders with low or no bail is “destroying the fabric of our city.”
What do the border and crime situations have in common? In both cases, the public’s right to know has been sacrificed to the “progressive” media’s desire not to offend.
They often note the ethnicity or immigration status of crime victims, but when it comes to identifying perpetrators, woke reporters and editors feel that information is as unimportant as shoe size or favorite food — unless the criminal fits the media’s profile for “privileged.”
They argue that the immigration status of people like Orozco-Sandoval, or Gershon Fuentes, an illegal alien from Guatemala charged with raping a 10-year-old girl in Ohio, or José Paulino Pascual-Reyes, an illegal alien from Mexico charged with sequestering and assaulting a 12-year-old girl in Alabama after killing her brother and mother, is irrelevant to their crimes.
It is not irrelevant. These crimes shouldn’t have happened because the perpetrators shouldn’t have been here. Their immigration status also indicates their flight risk.
San Francisco booted its feckless District Attorney, Chesa Boudin, out of office, but there are plenty of prosecutors left in cities like New York, Philadelphia and Chicago who share his twisted ideology: that a criminal’s right to “social justice” trumps the public’s right to safety.
When people are being sucker-punched in broad daylight, or pushed onto subway tracks, the public deserves to know if perpetrators were let out with no bail, so that they can weigh the risks and rewards of their elected officials’ policies on public safety.
Similarly, if drug cartel operatives like Orozco-Sandoval are in the country illegally, the public deserves to know so they can weigh the risks and rewards of an immigration policy that admits hundreds of thousands of unvetted people.
The cartel Orozco-Sandoval worked for is “one of the five most dangerous transnational criminal organizations in the world, responsible for trafficking many tons of cocaine, methamphetamine and fentanyl-laced heroin into the United States,” according to the Justice Department.
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas apparently shares Biden’s belief that borders should be open to virtually all comers. They have instructed border agents to process known arrivals (who often have no proof of identity) on a mass scale and move them quickly into the interior, with no notice to local communities or officials.
Meanwhile, another 900,000 have entered the country over the last two fiscal years without seeing any U.S. officials at all. Many of these “gotaways” are criminals, and some are known or suspected terrorists. Americans should not have to absorb this risk.
Just as rogue prosecutors who favor letting violent, incorrigible, repeat offenders out of jail in the interests of “social justice” should stand behind their policies, Biden and Mayorkas shouldn’t be able to hide from the consequences of their border nihilism with the collusion of the press.
National media outlets have a duty to inform the public so that voters know the facts about criminals — including immigration status — to hold elected officials accountable. Hiding relevant information from readers and viewers puts ideology ahead of public safety and betrays a fundamental principle of journalism.

Canadian Parties Agree: Immigrants Are Welcome Here
By Jay Heisler VOA News September 06, 2022
HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA — At a time when many developed countries are facing backlashes against immigration, Canada is experiencing a broad consensus in support of throwing open its doors to more new residents from abroad.
With record numbers of immigrants being admitted to Canada in the past two years, all three major political parties support the policy and, to the extent that they disagree, it is to denounce bureaucratic obstacles slowing immigration. Similarly, the complaints that appear in major news media are not that immigration is too easy, but too hard.
Immigration Minister Sean Fraser boasted at a press conference last month that Canada “is on track to exceed its immigration goal of granting permanent residency to more than 430,000 people in 2022.” That will easily exceed the admission of 401,000 immigrants in 2021, more than in any previous year.
For comparison, the United States — with nine times the population of Canada — admitted just 245,000 immigrants in 2021, down from 477,000 the previous year. In the years immediately before an immigration-skeptical Trump administration came to office, U.S. immigration was running at around 1 million people a year.
Anti-immigrant sentiment elsewhere
In Germany and Britain, which have experienced immigration flows more comparable to Canada’s in recent years, the pace of new arrivals in each nation has prompted a popular backlash, giving rise to increasingly influential anti-immigrant parties in Germany and contributing to the Brexit vote in the U.K.
But in Canada, opposition to immigration appears to be decreasing even as the rate of immigration goes up. According to one survey, the percentage of Canadians who think immigration levels are too high has declined since 2018 from 49% to 39%.
The three main political parties firmly support immigration, no doubt aware of the large numbers in the electorate who are immigrants themselves. An estimated 21.5% of Canada’s 33 million residents are first-generation immigrants while second-generation immigrants account for another 17.4%.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s governing Liberal Party, with solid backing from the social democratic New Democratic Party, has made immigration a key element of its economic program with an eye to addressing post-pandemic labor shortages.
“Newcomers enrich and better our communities, and they work every day to create jobs, care for our loved ones and support local businesses,” Fraser said earlier this year. “Without them, Canada would not have been able to overcome challenges in critical industries and sectors of the economy over the past two years.”……
