Political ‘Justice’ in America
Written by daniel mcadams Ron Paul Institute for Peace and Prosperity October 24, 2022
Josef Stalin’s top henchman famously said, “show me the man and I’ll show you the crime.” What it meant was that Soviet justice was about politics, not the rule of law. First decide who, for political reasons, is to be punished, and then the state will provide the crimes for which he will be charged.
This dark era of politicized “justice” has returned with former Trump campaign advisor Steve Bannon’s recent sentence to four months in jail for “contempt of Congress” over his refusal to appear before the House January 6th Committee.
How is it politicized justice for Bannon to be punished for ignoring a subpoena from the US Congress? Because many before him have been charged with contempt of Congress - including Democratic Party luminaries such as Eric Holder, Janet Reno, and Lois Lerner – and were never sentenced to jail time.
Bannon’s sentence is meant to convey a political message to America: if you support Trump you are a criminal and you may find yourself in a cell next to Steve Bannon.
And you do not have to support Trump to understand the danger in this. Everyone should be afraid of political justice. It cuts both ways and there is no guarantee that Republicans if they capture Congress will not also follow this precedent.
Sending your political opponents to jail is what happens in a banana republic. It is un-American. But here we are.
The goal of the January 6th Committee is not to seek justice for the “crime” of trespassing and putting feet on Pelosi’s sacred desk, but to make sure that Donald Trump is never allowed to run for President again. That is the reason hundreds have been unjustly arrested and held in terrible conditions for non-crimes. As they say, if you want to make an omelet you have to break some eggs.
Speaking of contempt of Congress, the real contempt is the existence of the January 6th Committee in the first place. It has been a partisan show trial from the beginning, where the only two “Republican” Members were not chosen by Republicans but by Nancy Pelosi. The purpose of the Committee has been to prop up the false narrative that somehow a few rowdy protesters who broke into the Capitol Building were the equivalent of the storming of the Bastille.
The US Administration is also involved in narrative control in other areas. The media reported last week that Tesla and Space-X chief Elon Musk has come under a “national security review” over, it seems, his on-again-off-again purchase of Twitter and perhaps even his proposing a peace plan for Russia and Ukraine that does not include a nuclear strike on Moscow.
Musk has also come under fire from the “cancel culture” Left over his repeated vows to return Twitter to a free speech platform once he is in charge. As we have seen in so many cases, including with former New York Times journalist Alex Berenson, Twitter has been working closely with the Biden Administration to silence and ban any users who dare challenge the “accepted wisdom” on Covid, Ukraine, and a number of other things.
When justice becomes tangled in politics, freedom and liberty go out the window. We are not so naïve to think this is something that just arrived with the Biden Administration, but there seems little doubt it is spreading like a cancer. We must reject political justice if the Republic is to survive.

Alberta Premier Apologizes to Unvaccinated Citizens, Considers Dropping all Lockdown Prosecutions
By Ezra Levant Rebel News October 22, 2022
This is huge.
Moments ago our Rebel News reporter, Selene Galas, asked the new Alberta premier if she’d apologize to unvaccinated people who were bullied by the government.
When she was campaigning to be the new premier, Danielle Smith had promised to do so. Today, Selene asked her when she’d actually do so.
And Premier Smith’s reply was amazing.
“I can apologize right now. I’m deeply sorry,” she said.
And she proceeded to give a heartfelt apology “for anyone who was inappropriately subjected to discrimination as a result of their vaccine status, I’m deeply sorry. For any government employee that was fired from their job, because of their vaccine status, and I welcome the back if they want to come back.”
Here, take a look at Selene’s question — and Premier Smith’s answer:
Even more amazing than the heartfelt apology, Premier Smith said she was seriously considering granting a legal amnesty to any Albertans charged with lockdown offences — as in, dropping all the charges!
This is very exciting.
Alberta is now the first jurisdiction in Canada — perhaps even in the world — to apologize to its unvaccinated citizens for discriminating against them.
A great question by our intrepid reporter — and a great answer by the new premier.
And you know it’s the kind of question that only Rebel News would ask!
Yours hopefully,
P.S. Let’s show Premier Danielle Smith that her apology is well-received and that her idea of lockdown amnesty is a great one. Please sign our petition at www.LockdownAmnesty.com, and we’ll personally deliver it to her office. We have 16,000 signatures already — let’s aim for 20,000! P.P.S. Congratulations to our reporter Selene Galas, for asking such an important question — and getting a huge news scoop — as opposed to the same left-wing gossip that the CBC obsesses over.

BREAKING: The People Lose, the State Wins
By Maxime Bernier Leader, People’s Party of Canada October 21, 2022
I just heard some bad news and needed to update you immediately.
You’ll recall, last month my constitutional challenge against the government for their travel restrictions applying to the unvaccinated began.
Government lawyers argued that the case should be thrown out. They said it was no longer relevant, since the mandates had since been suspended.
Well, my lawyer informed me last night that the judge had sided with the government!
The reasons in support of this bizarre decision are unknown and will be provided later.
I’m going to be honest with you. This experience has really shaken my faith in our institutions.
In this country, there is supposed to be a division of powers that hold each other accountable.
The executive branch, the legislative branch, the judicial branch.
Not to mention our Constitution.
But what we saw the last few years is the legislative branch cede power to the executive branch to take actions that violated our fundamental, constitutional rights.
And when we went to challenge these actions in the judicial branch, what did the government do?
They swept it under the rug and demanded the judicial branch ignore our challenge.
This is not how Western Democracies are supposed to function.
This is straight out of a Banana Republic or a Dictatorship!
I won’t stand for it!
If we can’t prove that these unnecessary restrictions were unconstitutional—which I am absolutely certain they were—then there’s nothing to stop the Trudeau regime from bringing them back whenever it's convenient for them!
I won’t accept this unjust decision.
But I need your help.
My lawyer is already working on an appeal to send this case to the Federal Court of Appeal.
And I won’t stop there.
I’ll take this case all the way to the Supreme Court if necessary.
But I can’t do it alone.
I need the support of every patriotic Canadian that knows these restrictions were wrong.
You can help me win this crucial battle.

Xi Jinping Begins Third Term as China’s Leader, Picks Loyalists
By Cindy Sui VOA News October 24, 2022
HONG KONG — After 10 years of China’s Xi Jinping leadership, the prospect of five more years under his rule, with a new team of top leaders believed to be handpicked by him, is frowned upon by some people, but welcomed by others.
“A lot of people I know don’t really like him,” said a Beijing resident who wants to be identified only as Lea. “Wages have gone up in the past 10 years, but so has inflation; everything has gotten a lot more expensive. We don’t see a lot of benefits from him.”
Lea was disappointed that Xi plans to continue China’s three-year long zero-COVID policy, which has seen cities undergo sudden lockdowns, and is blamed for hurting China’s economy and raising youth unemployment.
“The epidemic is not that serious anymore. Other countries have opened up, but not China,” she said.
Some citizens, however, have confidence that Xi and his new team will fix the problems that have arisen from China’s past decades of rapid and largely-unregulated development — including the huge housing bubble and the lack of capital gains and property taxes that have widened the wealth gap……..

Israel Presenting US With Intelligence on Iranian Drones Used in Ukraine
By VOA News October 26, 2022
Israeli President Isaac Herzog plans to share intelligence about Iranian drones being used by Russian forces in Ukraine when he meets Wednesday with U.S. President Joe Biden.
Herzog’s office said Israel has images showing similarities between drones shot down in Ukraine and those Iran tested in 2021.
Ukraine and its Western partners have said Russia’s recent use of drones to attack Ukrainian cities, including Kyiv, involves Iranian-made Shahed-136 drones.
Iran has denied supplying them to Russia and Russia has denied using them in Ukraine.
Biden on Tuesday issued a strong warning on Russia against using a dirty bomb or any other nuclear weapons in its war on Ukraine.
"Russia would be making an incredibly serious mistake for the use of tactical nuclear weapons,” he said Tuesday when a reporter asked whether Russia is setting up a “false flag operation” — preparing to deploy a “dirty bomb” as it accuses Ukraine of detonating it in its own territory…….
VOA’s U.N. Correspondent Margaret Besheer and White House Bureau Chief Patsy Widakuswara contributed to this article. Some information for this story came from The Associated Press, Agence France-Presse and Reuters.

US Technology Helps Improve Crop Yields in Drought-stricken Africa
By Juma Majanga VOA News October 26, 2022
KIBWEZI, KENYA — More frequent and severe droughts in Africa are hampering food production, especially in arid parts of the continent, where farmers struggle to eke out a living. A water retention system developed in the United States is helping African farmers fight the trend and improve crop yields in drought-affected areas.
Under the scorching sun in the Ulilinzi village of southeastern Kenya, farmers are engaging in unique land preparations.
They are installing in the ground specially designed polyethylene membranes that look like clear covers, to prevent the loss of moisture and nutrients from the soil.
Exacerbated by drought from climate change, the sandy soil in this area, like in most arid and semi-arid areas, has made it nearly impossible to produce abundant crops.
However, this new water retention technology developed in the U.S. is giving farmers here new hope.
Alvin Smucker is a professor of soil biophysics at Michigan State University who developed the technology…….

Something New Under the Sun: Floating Solar Panels
By Steve Herman VOA News October 18, 2022
STAFFORD, VIRGINIA — Who said there is nothing new under the sun?
One of the hottest innovations for the non-polluting generation of electricity is floating photovoltaics, or FPV, which involves anchoring solar panels in bodies of water, especially lakes, reservoirs and seas. Some projects in Asia incorporate thousands of panels to generate hundreds of megawatts.
FPV got a head start in Asia and Europe where it makes a lot of economic sense with open land highly valued for agriculture.
The first modest systems were installed in Japan and at a California winery in 2007 and 2008.
On land, a one-megawatt projects requires between one and 1.6 hectares.
Floating solar projects are even more attractive when they can be built on bodies of water adjacent to hydropower plants with existing transmission lines.
Most of the largest such projects are in China and India. There also are large-scale facilities in Brazil, Portugal and Singapore.
A proposed 2.1 gigawatt floating solar farm on a tidal flat on the coast of the Yellow Sea in South Korea, which would contain five million solar modules over an area covering 30 square kilometers with a $4 billion price tag, is facing an uncertain future with a new government in Seoul. President Yoon Suk-yeol has indicated he prefers to boost nuclear over solar power.
Other gigawatt-scale projects are moving off the drawing board in India and Laos, as well as the North Sea, off the Dutch coast.
The technology has also excited planners in sub-Saharan Africa with the lowest electricity access rate in the world and an abundance of sunshine.
In countries that depend on a lot of hydropower, “there's concerns around what does power generation look like during droughts, for example, and with climate change, we expect that we'll see more extreme weather events. When we're thinking about droughts, there is the opportunity to then have FPV as another renewable energy option in your toolkit essentially,” explained Sika Gadzanku, a researcher at the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Colorado. “So instead of depending so much on hydro, now you can use more FPV and reduce your dependence on hydro, during very dry seasons, to use your floating solar photovoltaics.”
A one percent coverage of hydropower reservoirs with floating solar panels could provide an increase of 50 percent of the annual production of existing hydroelectric plants in Africa, according to a study funded by the European Commission……..
